What does thrifty mean anyway?

Dollars And CentsLet’s talk about what being thrifty means in everyday life.  Being thrifty means thinking and acting wisely when it comes to money and finance. We face dozens of choices during our day that involve money. We’re constantly presented with ways to spend it, save it, invest it, lend it, or donate it.  Few people are immune from decisions of how to spend their money.

I see thrifty living as a way to stay conscious of where our money is going.  We each have financial goals and we’re each faced with the question – how do I achieve my goals?  Some of my goals include being debt free, owning a home, or putting my children through college.  Each of these challenges will involve sacrifice and hard work, but being thrifty should make it easier and more rewarding to realize these goals.

Thrifty doesn’t only mean being practical with money.  It can also mean growing, thriving and prosperous. What a great word! So, not only can being thrifty be practical and financially thoughtful, but it can also lead us to prosperity.  It may seem out of reach right now, but dollar by dollar, we can achieve our financial goals. And if being thrifty can help me along that path – well that sounds good to me!
